Self Reflection:
This project was very different from all of the projects I have done in the high tech system. What made the project different was all the steps we had to take before actually beginning our 'project'. We spent more time becoming experts on the topic that we chose than actually building our prototype. That was a first for me. Normally, we build and learn as we go. This method was kind of challenging for me, since I'm not very patient. I just wanted to start planning and building the prototype. I overcame with the help of my group. They kept telling me to be patient and do the process step by step. Doing that actually made our end result better than what I had imagined.
I have appreciated many things in past projects, but this project really got me to value and appreciate work that can easily help out my city of San Diego. I appreciated the opportunity to interview very wise people about the problem and hearing their sides of the story. Interviewing people can be a really helpful skill to have, so I really appreciated the opportunity to improve that skill. I will take into account all the facts and opinions that I heard, from the people we interviewed, when the topic of water pollution comes up so I can share my knowledge to other people.
I have always thought that one person was either a democrat or a republican, or they lean more into one side. Taking Joanne's class has showed me otherwise. She showed us another option; progressive. This means that you support progress and you don't get held on to the past. This really applied to our project, since what we were doing was making a solution that will help the future and bring progress towards completely getting rid of the problem we chose.
I always love seeing the reaction of parents during exhibition when we show them what we did the whole semester. They're always saying, "Wow! That's really cool!" or "We didn't do this in high school!", but this time it was different. Since our main exhibition was Tuesday during Progressive Day, we got the chance to talk to complete strangers and show them our project. I truly feel like the designs that we showed them impacted them in a good way, because they know that some school out there is actually doing something to stop the problems that are out there. Many of the people that we talked about were in shock and kept saying how cool what we were doing is. I truly feel that we changed and impacted all of the people we talked to.
After all of the process and steps and everything we did, I would only make one change to our prototype. The color of our signs. A lot of people that we talked to agreed that the color pink is not really good for a beach sign. I feel like if we changed he color, the prototype can be really close to perfect.
