The House on manGo street
|
The House on Mango Street is a novella written by Sandra Cisneros. It tells the story of a young girls named Esperanza. She is insecure about the way she looks, her home and her poverty. All those issues are holding her back from leaving Mango Street to accomplish her dream of owning her own house.Throughout the book, she starts gaining confidence and at the end, she is confident enough to leave Mango Street. The book was really well written and unique. Unlike most books, each chapter of the book was a little story about Esperanza’s childhood. I liked the book, but it got pretty boring at the end. It teaches a lot of life lessons and shows readers a perspective of kids that live in poor neighborhoods.
_________________________________________________________________ The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian is written by Sherman Alexie. It tells the story of a young indian boy named Junior, who lives in a reservation. Junior was born with too much water in his brain. When they took the water out, he got other side effects, like ten extra teeth and seizures. All the people around him have drinking problems and go nowhere in life. Nobody expects anything of Junior. Junior doesn’t want to be stuck in the reservation all his life, so he goes to an all-white school. At the beginning, he gets bullied and made fun of, but he then becomes one of them and they respect him, no matter if he’s an indian or not. The book was amazing and really funny. You always wanted to keep reading. I finished the book in three days and wanted to read it again. In my opinion, this book is amazing and every teen will love it. __________________________________________________________________ The Art of Racing In The Rain is a novel written by Garth Stein. It tells the story of a dog named Enzo who was adopted as a puppy by a semi professional race car driver named Denny Swift. Through living with Denny, Enzo learns to love racing and realizes there are many life lessons to be learned from the sport. Enzo faces challenges throughout the book as he stand by his master's side through many tragedies and trials. He conveys to readers the importance of opportunities and never giving up as he prepares to move to the human life. I found this book to be really well written. It is really good and I would recommend it to anybody that loves dogs. |
